Sports Performance
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
Our on-campus gym is a space where our athletes learn how to train the right way. Every session is supervised by our full-time, strength and conditioning coach who provides hands-on instruction, makes corrections, and explains the “why” behind each movement. That means our players aren’t just working hard, they’re training smart.
Our strength and conditioning program is built specifically for hockey, striking the right balance of strength, power, mobility, and recovery. Workouts are tailored to meet the needs of both female and male hockey players, accounting for individual development while maintaining a consistent standard across the program. The result is a safe, effective training environment that supports performance, longevity, and confidence in the gym.
SPORTS MEDICINE
Lovell Academy strives to provide quality athletic training and sports medicine services. Our full-time, licensed, certified Athletic Trainer specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of muscle and bone injuries and conditions and illnesses and is educated and trained in emergency care for catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord injuries, sudden cardiac arrest, heat illness and concussions. They provide care for injuries incurred during school athletic participation and work in coordination with our School Nurse, Strength and Conditioning Coach and consulting team physicians to deliver appropriate, specific care for each injury or illness. Our Athletic Trainer works under the BOC Standards of Professional Practice and is committed to using current evidence and clinical judgment to ensure the best patient care for our student-athletes.
Concussion Policy & Baseline Testing
Lovell Academy follows best practices to promote student-athlete safety during athletic participation. Any athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion is NOT allowed to return to athletic activity that day. A concussion may be suspected by a coach, athletic trainer, athletic director, nurse or referee and must be reported immediately. To assist our athletic trainer and team doctors in successfully diagnosing and managing concussions, Lovell Academy performs baseline neurocognitive testing on every player utilizing a standardized exam as required by high school, collegiate and professional sports programs across the country. If an athlete sustains a head injury or concussion, they must complete a seven-step return-to-play progression supervised by our Athletic Trainer and/or physician to return to play.
